Your cardFrench

le thé

noun (m.)

tea

Made for learning French

  • The gender, even with l'

Nouns come with le, la or l', and l' words show (m.) or (f.) too.

  • Back to the infinitive

"Nous faisons" becomes faire. Accents stay exactly as written.

  • Words for your level

Easy look-alikes like « important » are skipped, so cards go to words you don't know yet.

Example French Anki cards

  • French

    le petit déjeuner

    noun (m.)

    breakfast

Et qu'est-ce que vous prenez au petit déjeuner?

  • French

    le café

    coffee

Et puis bon, ensuite je bois beaucoup de café, mais enfin, je commence le matin avec le thé.

How to learn French with Anki

Anki works best when the cards come from French you actually read and hear. A simple routine:

  1. Start with the most common words

A frequency deck or your course's word list covers the most common words fast. Start with a few new cards a day and add more once the reviews feel easy.

  2. Add the words you meet

Upload the chapter, article or video you're working on, pick your level and download one .apkg deck. Each card keeps the sentence you found the word in, so you learn how it's used, not just what it means.

  3. Review a little every day

A few minutes a day works better than a long session once a week. Anki's scheduler shows each card again just before you'd forget it.

Questions

Should I start with a premade French deck?

For the first few hundred most common words, a frequency deck is a quick start. After that, make cards from your course book, articles or series: every card then comes with a sentence you've already met.

Can I use it to prepare for the DELF or DALF?

Yes. Upload the reading texts you practice with, pick your level, and you get the words worth learning from each one, with its sentence.

Does it work with French YouTube videos?

Yes, with videos that have captions. Each card links to the moment the word is said. No captions? Paste the transcript.

Can I study from English to French too?

Yes. Pick both directions under More options: one card shows the French word, the other shows the meaning and asks for the word.

Does it work with Anki on my phone?

Yes. You download a normal .apkg deck. It opens in Anki on a computer, AnkiMobile and AnkiDroid, with no add-ons.

Is it free?

Yes. Free makes 3 decks a month (up to 15 pages each). Pro ($7.99 a month) makes 50 decks a month (up to 100 pages each). Downloading to Anki is never paywalled.
