AMCAS GPA calculator
Your med school GPA the way AMCAS counts it: cumulative, science (BCPM) and by year. Switch to AACOMAS or TMDSAS in one tap.

Your GPA

An estimate. Your verified GPA comes from AMCAS and can differ slightly.
How to use it
- 1Add every class from your transcripts, including retakes, summer classes and community college. Pick the year, subject, credits and grade.
- 2On quarters? Switch on "Quarter hours" and we convert them to semester hours (× 2/3), like AMCAS does.
- 3Read your GPA on the right. Tap AACOMAS or TMDSAS to see how DO schools and Texas count the same classes.
How AMCAS counts your GPA
- Every attempt counts. If you retook a class, both grades go in, even if your school replaced the first one.
- Plus and minus count: A- is 3.7, B+ is 3.3, and A+ is capped at 4.0.
- BCPM means biology, chemistry, physics and math (statistics too). AMCAS goes by what the class teaches, so anatomy, physiology and microbiology count as biology, and biochemistry counts as BCPM.
- P, W, I and audited classes don't change your GPA. An F does.
- Graduate classes get their own GPA and stay out of your undergraduate one. Post-bacc undergrad classes are included.
- This is an estimate. Your official numbers come from AMCAS after verification and can differ slightly.

Questions
What is a BCPM GPA?
It's your science GPA for MD schools: every biology, chemistry, physics and math class, including statistics. AMCAS also shows an AO (all other) GPA and a total.
Does AMCAS replace a retaken grade?
No. AMCAS uses every attempt, so a C followed by an A counts as both. That's often why your AMCAS GPA is lower than the one on your transcript.
Is psychology part of BCPM?
No. Psychology, sociology and neuroscience usually count as AO (all other). AMCAS decides by the content of the class, so check its course classification guide when in doubt.
How do I convert quarter hours?
Multiply by 2/3: a 4-quarter-hour class is about 2.7 semester hours. Switch on "Quarter hours" and the calculator does it for you.
Do community college and summer classes count?
Yes. AMCAS wants every college class you've taken, and they all count toward your GPA.
Does an A+ count as more than 4.0?
No. AMCAS caps A+ at 4.0, even if your school gives 4.33.
What's the difference with AACOMAS and TMDSAS?
DO schools (AACOMAS) leave math out of the science GPA. Texas (TMDSAS) ignores plus and minus, so an A- counts as a full 4.0. Tap the tabs to compare.
