Made for Word documents
Headings, lists and tables read
All the text in your document is read in order, bullet points and table cells too, so outlines and study guides work as they are.
Quote and page on every card
Tap a card to see the exact words it came from. Cards whose quote isn't in your document are dropped.
Only the part you need
Word files have no fixed pages, so about 500 words count as one. Pick a range before you start, like one topic of a long outline.
Pictures read too
Pictures in your document are read for their text, and labeled diagrams can become image occlusion cards.

Why not copy it in yourself?
Copying lines into Anki by hand, or pasting the document into ChatGPT, both work. Here's what AnkiDecks adds.

Questions
Is it free?
Yes. Free makes 3 decks a month from files up to 15 pages. Pro ($7.99 a month) makes 50 decks a month from files up to 100 pages. Downloading to Anki is never paywalled.
Is this for vocabulary word lists?
No. This page turns Word documents (.docx) into cards. To learn words in another language, the language pages make vocabulary cards with the meaning and the sentence you found each word in.
How are pages counted in a Word file?
Word files have no fixed pages, so about 500 words count as one page: a 3,000-word outline is about 6 pages. Free reads up to 15 pages per file (about 7,500 words), Pro up to 100. Longer file? Pick the part you need.
Does it read tables, comments and footnotes?
Tables, yes: the text in each cell is read. Comments, footnotes, headers and footers aren't, so put anything you want cards for in the main text.
What about Google Docs, Pages or an old .doc file?
Google Docs: File → Download → Microsoft Word (.docx). Pages: File → Export To → Word. An old .doc file: open it in Word and choose Save As → .docx, or save it as a PDF.
What about pictures in my document?
Pictures are read for any text in them. Labeled diagrams become image occlusion cards when you switch it on: every label is covered, and one is asked at a time.
Can't I just use ChatGPT?
You can: paste the text, ask for cards, then copy them into Anki. Our free ChatGPT prompt tool writes a good prompt for that. What it won't do is check each card against your file or make image occlusion cards. AnkiDecks keeps a card only if its quote is really in your file, and gives you a deck that opens in Anki straight away. Using Claude? Add AnkiDecks to Claude and make decks right in the chat.
Does it work on AnkiMobile and AnkiDroid?
Yes. You download a normal .apkg deck. It opens in Anki on a computer, AnkiMobile and AnkiDroid, with no add-ons. Image occlusion cards need Anki 23.10 or newer.
What happens to my document?
Uploaded files are deleted after 30 days. Your cards stay until you delete them, and you can delete your account and everything in it any time.
