Anki to PDF & Excel

Open any Anki deck in your browser, browse the cards with their pictures, and save them as PDF, Excel or CSV.

Drop your Anki deck here

.apkg or .colpkg, up to 500 MB. It opens right here, nothing is uploaded.

How to turn an Anki deck into a PDF or spreadsheet

  1. 1In Anki, click the gear next to a deck → Export, choose "Anki Deck Package (.apkg)". Shared decks you downloaded are already .apkg files.
  2. 2Drop the file here. Search the cards or pick a sub-deck.
  3. 3Click Print / PDF and choose "Save as PDF", or download Excel or CSV.

What you get

  • PDF: a clean two-column page (front | back) with pictures, ready to print or study from.
  • Excel / CSV: deck, note type, every field as plain text, and tags. Cloze cards show their answers in [brackets].
  • Cards keep your search and deck filter: export just what you see.
  • Scheduling (your review history) isn't included. It stays in Anki.

What's inside an .apkg file

An .apkg is a zip file. Here's what Anki puts in it, and what this viewer does with each part.

collection.anki2, .anki21 or .anki21bThe database with your notes, note types and decks. The name depends on the Anki version that made the file. The newest one is compressed, and older Anki versions can't open it unless you tick "Support older Anki versions" when you export.Opens all three.
A file called media, plus files named 0, 1, 2…Your pictures and audio, stored under numbers. The media file lists each one's real name. They're only there if "Include media" was ticked.Shows the pictures on the cards and in the PDF. Audio is skipped.
Scheduling and review historyOnly there if "Include scheduling information" was ticked. Without it, Anki removes all of it, because it assumes you're sharing the deck. Not read. The PDF and spreadsheet have no due dates or review history.
Notes and cardsOne note can make several cards: Basic (and reversed card) makes two, and a cloze note makes one per number (c1, c2…).Lists notes. The line at the top counts both, and the PDF and spreadsheet have one row per note.

Questions

Is my deck uploaded anywhere?

No. The deck opens inside your browser; the file never leaves your device. That's also why huge decks (over 500 MB) can't be opened.

Which Anki files work?

Any .apkg (a shared deck) or .colpkg (a full collection backup), from old Anki versions and the newest ones.

Do pictures show?

Yes, pictures inside the deck show on the cards and in the PDF. Audio is left out.

Can I open shared decks like AnKing?

Yes, if your computer has enough memory. For very big decks, export just the sub-deck you need from Anki first.

How do I print Anki cards?

Open the deck here, filter it if you like, and press Print / PDF. Your browser's print window opens: print on paper or save as PDF.

Can I edit the cards here?

Not here. To change cards, edit the spreadsheet and turn it back into a deck with the CSV & Excel to Anki converter.
