Each card shows the line from your slide it came from and the page it's on, so checking a card takes seconds.
Cloze for lists and numbers
Cut-offs, criteria and lists become cloze cards, one blank at a time.
Image occlusion from your slides
Labeled diagrams become image occlusion cards: all labels hidden, one asked at a time.

How to use Anki in medical school
Most med students mix a premade deck for boards with their own cards for school exams.
AnKing or your own cards?
Both. AnKing covers Step 1 and 2; your own cards cover what your lectures and school exams ask.
Settings that work
Turn on FSRS in Deck options and keep desired retention at 90%, Anki's default. Keep learning steps short, such as 10m. Start with 20 new cards a day.
A daily routine
Reviews first, then new cards. Upload each lecture the same day, check the cards and add them to Anki.
Cards that stick
One fact per card. Cloze for lists and cut-offs, Basic for mechanisms, image occlusion for diagrams.
When you fall behind
Stop adding new cards until your reviews are back to a daily amount you can finish, as Anki's manual recommends. Don't reset the deck. The backlog calculator shows how long catching up takes.

Questions
Should I use AnKing or make my own cards?
Both, for different jobs. A premade deck covers board material. Your own cards cover what your lectures and school exams ask, which a premade deck can't know. AnkiDecks makes those from your slides.
What if a card is wrong?
Each card shows the exact quote and page it came from, and a card is only kept if that quote is really in your file. You can still edit, redo or delete any card on the Review screen before you download.
Can it make cards from a recorded lecture?
Yes, from YouTube videos with captions. Each card links to the second in the video where it was said.
Does it read diagrams and scanned slides?
Yes. Pictures and scanned pages are read too, and labeled diagrams become image occlusion cards.
Does it work with Anki on my phone?
Yes. You download a normal .apkg deck. It opens in Anki on a computer, AnkiMobile and AnkiDroid, with no add-ons. Image occlusion cards need Anki 23.10 or newer.
Is it free?
Yes. Free makes 3 decks a month from files up to 15 pages. Pro ($7.99 a month) makes 50 decks a month from files up to 100 pages. Downloading to Anki is never paywalled.
