Good to know
- Uses the common 4.0 scale: A 4.0, A- 3.7, B+ 3.3, B 3.0 … F 0. A+ counts as 4.0.
- Pass, withdrawn, incomplete and audited classes don't change your GPA.
- Some schools use a different scale (A+ = 4.33, for example). Your registrar's number is the official one.
- Applying to med school? Use the AMCAS GPA calculator: it counts retakes and science classes the way applications do.
Questions
How is GPA calculated?
Each grade's points times the class credits, added up, then divided by the total credits. A 3-credit A (12 points) and a 3-credit B (9 points) give 21 / 6 = 3.5.
How do I calculate my cumulative GPA?
Type your current GPA and the credits you've completed, then add this semester's classes. We combine them by credits.
Do pass/fail classes affect GPA?
A pass doesn't. A fail usually doesn't either, but some schools count it, so check your school's policy.
Does a withdrawal (W) hurt my GPA?
No, a W doesn't change your GPA.
