Where the money goes

  • AMCAS (MD): $180 for the first school, $48 for each one after (2027 cycle).
  • AACOMAS (DO): $198 for the first school, $60 for each one after (2026–2027 cycle).
  • TMDSAS (Texas): one flat fee for as many Texas schools as you like.
  • Secondaries are set by each school, and they often add up to more than the primary application.
  • AAMC's Fee Assistance Program waives AMCAS fees for up to 20 schools and lowers the MCAT fee. Apply before you register or submit: it isn't retroactive.

Questions

How much does it cost to apply to 20 medical schools?

AMCAS alone is $180 + 19 × $48 = $1,092 for 20 MD schools. Add secondaries (each school sets its own) and the MCAT ($360).

How much does it cost to apply to 30 medical schools?

AMCAS is $180 + 29 × $48 = $1,572 for 30 MD schools, before secondaries and the MCAT.

AAMC's Fee Assistance Program waives AMCAS fees for one application with up to 20 schools and lowers the MCAT fee to $145. AACOMAS has its own waiver for the first program. TMDSAS doesn't offer waivers.

Are secondary fees included?

Only as your estimate: every school sets its own fee, and some charge nothing or waive it with Fee Assistance.
