ChatGPT prompts for Anki cards
Copy a prompt that makes ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or NotebookLM answer in Anki-ready lines, then paste the answer back and download the deck.
1 Copy the prompt
Have the PDF or slides? Skip the copy-paste: AnkiDecks runs its own card-writing system built for exams. It reads the whole lecture, and Source Check removes any card it can't find in your file.Make cards from your notes
Make exactly 20 Anki flashcards from the material below. Each card tests one fact. Questions are short and specific (no yes/no questions). Answers are under 15 words. Only use facts that are in the material. Don't invent anything. Answer with the cards only, one card per line, in this format: front;back No numbering, no headings, no blank lines, no other text. Never use a semicolon inside a card. Material: [paste your notes or lecture text here]

- 1Pick a card style and how many cards, then copy the prompt.
- 2Paste it into ChatGPT (or Claude, Gemini, NotebookLM) and add your notes where it says.
- 3Paste the AI's answer back here, check the cards, and download the .apkg.
Where chat AIs still go wrong
- They sometimes invent facts that aren't in your notes. Check every card before you study it.
- Long notes get skipped or summarised: paste a lecture section at a time.
- They lose count and repeat themselves on big batches. Ask for 20–30 cards at a time.
- You can't check where a card came from. AnkiDecks writes cards only from your file, Source Check removes any card it can't find there, and every card shows the line and page it came from.

Questions
Why front;back with a semicolon?
It's a format chat AIs follow reliably and we can read back exactly. The prompt tells it never to use a semicolon inside a card.
The AI added numbers or a code block. Is that a problem?
No. We remove code fences, numbering, bullets and a header line before reading the cards.
Does this use AI on your side?
No. This page only builds the prompt and reads the answer you paste. Nothing is sent to us.
Is there a ChatGPT Anki add-on?
Not an official one from OpenAI or Anki. Some community add-ons on AnkiWeb call ChatGPT with your own API key, so you pay per use and set it up inside Anki. This page needs no add-on and no key: copy the prompt into the normal ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, paste the answer back and download the deck.
